It’s that time of year again, a full blown week of style at the Cannes Film Festival.
But do we really care about the films? I think not. Maybe I care about ‘Grace of Monaco because I want so much to see this movie. But anyway, Cannes Film Festival it’s all about glamorous dresses and slick suits. You can find some photos with my favorite dresses so far, on my Facebook page….
The lineup was announced on 14th of May, but the race to this year’s Cannes Film Festival has already started. The team on the Croisette have let loose already this year’s official poster on the Palais des Festivals. Opened 2 days ago with the Nicole Kidman, starring Grace of Monaco, the 67th Cannes film festival runs from 14-25 May this year.
No doubt everybody’s out there this weekend enjoying the sun, beach and good life! If not, I feel your pain too…For those who won’t be attending the festival, there’s still plenty to do around town, along with lots of opportunities for stargazing. After all, that is what Cannes is all about. And to give you all the perfect glamorous beach vibe, here’s a little retrospect of my 2012 holiday in Cannes on the French Riviera.
The best part about flying into Nice Airport is the view. The runway is right on the sea, and as the plane makes its descent, there are gorgeous views from the waterfront Promenade des Anglais to the tree-studded mountains in the background. I enjoyed these views of Nice, as I traveled to the French Riviera in 2012. But it wasn’t just the views I was excited about. It was also the thought that I have the great opportunity to visit Cannes during the Film Festival. And now as the press and the film industry descend on Cannes for the 67th Edition of the Film Festival, I remember with pleasure one of the most exciting trips of my life.
I had a lot of expectations from Cannes!
How could you not with such a famous and star-studded event? Beyond the glamour and the evening gowns, the faces of such famous actors and luxury brand names, Cote d’Azur or French Riviera, was also the view that inspired artists such as Matisse, Picasso, F. Scott Fitzgerald. I couldn’t wait to see it, to taste it and to just watch it all with my own eyes.
We had this amazing opportunity to experience one of Celebrities favorite – Hotel Martinez, situated in a prime location on the exclusive Boulevard de la Croisette. This is the hotel where the crowd waits from 10’am in the morning, hoping to get the autograph of one of their favorite stars. The hotel’s long rich history, authentic hospitality, and timeless architectural beauty have long established itself as the flagship hotel on the French Riviera. For me turned to be one of the best hotels I had the pleasure to stay at, with very comfortable and luxurious Art-deco decorated rooms. Hotel Martinez is for sure the best choice for a luxurious and glamorous trip to Cannes, that makes you feel like a movie star! Not to say that you have the opportunity to come face to face with a Hollywood star every moment.
Four days of living a surreal existence amongst the stars, hesitating in front of the breakfast buffet next to Ewan Mc Gregor, taking the lift with Bruce Willis or seeing Eva Longoria show her latest tweets to Jane Fonda, it means that I’m lucky enough!
So…our first morning started out beautifully. After we had a light breakfast sitting on the terrace by the pool called “Meridien Esplanade”, we took a little stroll through the narrow streets of Cannes. Yachts smiled in the harbor as the crowds of photographers swam around waiting for pictures of celebrity arrivals. It was a very strange sensation from laying in bed at night to all of a sudden hear screams from a crowd – ah yes, another celebrity has emerged! The line of black cars, the deep crowds of people all trying to get a peek at someone famous, the screams of excitement, the photographers yelling “Over here! One more! Over here!”, and of course, that beautiful red carpet that I saw in front of Palais des Festivals are really unforgettable.
After our first exploration of Cannes, we had to go back to the hotel and change for a lovely lunch at one of the most luxurious hotels in the world and a celebrity paradise – Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc located in Cap d’Antibes. Cap d’Antibes is a glittering jewel and a glorious promontory sticking out into the Mediterranean. The best way to get there is taking the sea route and capturing the beauty of Riviera coastline along the way! Our friends have chosen a speedboat for having a relaxed cruise plus some unique views of the islands and Cannes itself. I couldn’t be more than happy to wake up and fall asleep in this magic scenery.
Is there anything better in this world than love, sea, sun and parties?
For this fabulous boat trip and lunch, I thought it was the perfect occasion to wear white and enjoy the amazing life I have!
About this wonderful place – Cap d’Antibes I will tell you in another blog post.
Enjoy the pictures!
