LA ZEBRA Resort TULUM

For an authentic Mexican tropical vacation, look no further than La Zebra Resort Beach Cantina Y Cabanas, situated perfectly on the white sand beach of Tulum.

A classic jungle-chic hotel in Tulum, La Zebra Resort is an ideal destination for anyone looking to escape into paradise. Featuring 15 cabanas, La Zebra is one of the original Tulum hotels & restaurants that made the Riviera Maya famous.

Tulum, uniquely built by the sea-cliffs, is located on the Yucatan Peninsula in the State of Quintana Roo, southeastern Mexico, on the northern border of the Biosphere Reserve of Sian Ka’an.

Located 145 km south of the cosmopolitan city of Cancún, Tulum is divided into three different areas, the Hotel Zone, the Town and the Archaeological Zone. In the first area, there are some of the most beautiful virgin beaches on the Caribbean coast. The area is distinguished by its simple architecture, which demonstrates a profound respect for the environment. The rustic cabins and small hotels were built in total harmony with the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Tulum zone consists of a large protected area, between Tulum ruins and the entrance of the ecological reserve of Sian-Kaan. There is an extension of approximately 20 kilometers of beaches of white sand and blue sea where eco lodges are located, which offers economic hotel options from rustic cabins to luxurious cottages with all amenities.

After we explore and enjoy these white beaches, we wanted to eat something and we knew about La Zebra Restaurant, one of the most visited here in Tulum. Because we didn’t find it so easily (it was almost at the very end of the beach opposite the Tulum ruins) we took a taxi which cost 50 pesos, which we gladly paid after walking for a half hour and not finding a single car to try to hitch a ride with. I wouldn’t go back now without renting a car in Mexico, even if it’s not so safe!

La Zebra Resort was another place on my list to explore in Tulum, but I’ve never ever imagined that this is an ultra-romantic option in the beach zone. La Zebra surrounds the guest with the vibrancy and energy of the Mexican culture utilizing the natural beauty of the area to create a fun and casual atmosphere on one of the most photographed beaches in the Riviera Maya.

By the time we got there, we were wondering if the restaurant was worth it because we were very hungry and tired from carting our small but heavy backpacks around. But all our doubts disappeared when we were led, through the palm trees growing in the finest, whitest sand to the palapa – style restaurant set within lush landscaping. I have never seen anything so beautiful and exotic! The breeze was very strong and constant here, and the waves were huge, but the water was warm. Luxurious cabana-style accommodations set on the quintessential postcard-perfect beach, complete with gleaming white sand and gently swaying palm trees.

We choose our table and experience truly authentic fresh local cuisine overlooking the sapphire blue Caribbean Sea and listening to the sound of the ocean. The food was the best we had in Mexico. The gourmet Mexican restaurant is excellent and the overall feel of the resort is young, active and fun-loving.

The menu takes lunch on a fascinating journey around Mexico, from the Oaxaca “stone soup,” a fragrant seafood dish prepared table side, to a Tijuana-style taco, Veracruz chalupitas and tacos al pastor from Mexico City. Order a top-shelf tequila to accompany the feast!

La Zebra Resort is located on one of the most stunning stretches of soft sand beach in Tulum, a perfect spot for laying on the hammock to watch the waves or for swimming in the tropical blue waters.

I loved the exotic lounge of La Zebra where you can stretch out under a coco palm with the sand between your toes and one of their famous cucumber margaritas or mojitos in hand. They use an antique hand crank to press the sugar cane juice fresh each day. Have you ever had a mojito sweetened with fresh-pressed sugar cane juice and fresh mint like they are making here? I didn’t think so!

Overall, I highly recommend La Zebra for anyone who wants to relax in paradise!

In the evening we were pretty much coated with a film of salt and some sand, but who cares when I haven’t worn my shoes all day long? We sadly left La Zebra Resort just because it started to rain (you might see all the dark clouds approaching), wishing we hadn’t booked ahead for our room in Playa that night.

I recommend you to Book your perfect Mexican vacation at La Zebra Resort!

Why not try going off the grid for a day or two? You might find you like cloud formations more than cloud apps!

My only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer and that we didn’t book one romantic designed cabanas for our vacation instead of Sandos – Caracol Hotel in Playa del Carmen.

What if you Wake up every morning with the sparkling blue Caribbean view, stroll the dazzling white sand beach, and enjoy a hearty breakfast at La Zebra Resort before the day’s adventures? Or stretch out in a hammock strung between coco palms and feel the sea breeze from the shade of your beach side palapa?

This is the heart and soul of Tulum.

The Maya Riviera’s uncomplicated beach-chic style defines each of the 16 accommodations, ranging from simple (yet still lovely and spotless) garden view or jungle cabanas perfect for couples to a two-story luxury beachfront suite surrounded by palm trees. All cabanas are just a few steps or a very short walk from the white-sand beach and warm blue water.

It’s a world away from modern life, where the pace is easy, the nights warm, and the music sweet, mentioning that they offer hot water and electricity, as well as free wi-fi. Semi open plan bathrooms, luxury bedding, splashes of vibrant color, rustic touches, and pitched grass palapa roofs remind you’re in marvelous Mexico!
