When you are at 122th floor in Burj Khalifa – the tallest tower of the world
Nothing else matters but you!
I was On Top of the World during my 2012 holiday in Dubai. It was one of the most extraordinary & unique experience that took my breath away in a minute. Sometimes, I write about these kind of moments when I need to pinch myself to make sure that I’m actually not sleeping.
This feeling to be on the 122 floor of the tallest building in the world it feels so surreal …. That night I felt like a princess and the happiness and excitement could be read easily on my face. A moment in my life which I will never forget!
Skyscrapers don’t get any taller than Burj Khalifa, currently the tallest structure on the planet. Soaring 828 meters (2,717 ft), the building has a stepped design that narrows as it climbs syringe. No building in modern history has aroused so much curiosity and intrigue as has Burj Khalifa.
The tallest building in the world does not appear made for this Earth. By day it looks photoshoped into its downtown Dubai surroundings. By night, the hulking spire looks like a rocket bound for the furthest reaches of our galaxy. The structure is a testament to the audacity of Dubai. The Arabs believe that what they build is what they are and they are going to try and build the best.
While the world economic markets receded, Dubai kept building the beast called Khalifa. At a cost of $1.5 billion and a height of 2,717 feet, it’s a giant middle finger to its predecessors. It possesses at least fifteen world records. It has the highest restaurant, the most floors and is also the tallest structure ever built.
This post comes right from the tallest building in the world: Burj Khalifa, part of the massive Downtown Dubai complex of offices, hotels, shopping malls, entertainment precincts and apartment buildings. This is one of the world’s most extraordinary & unique experience, if you aren’t afraid of heights!
Your At the Top, Burj Khalifa visit begins in the reception area on the lower ground level of The Dubai Mall. Here and throughout your journey, you will be entertained and informed by a multi-media presentation that chronicles Dubai’s exotic history and the fascinating story of Burj Khalifa. Special telescopes provide virtual time-travel visions of the scenes beyond and below. You’ll see close-up real-time views as well as the past and the future, by day and by night. You can also walk the entire perimeter for the most comprehensive views. If you wish, adventure outside onto the open-air terrace to enjoy another perspective of the sweeping views below. The At the Top, Burj Khalifa tour typically last 1 hour. However, you can linger as long as you like before making the return journey to the base of Burj Khalifa.
But you must know one thing: to catch this tour you need to book it three days in advance on the Burj Khalifa site and the regular price is 100 AED. Since this is Dubai, there is an expensive option in addition to regular admission. The “immediate entry” choice costs four times regular admission, but one will be able to skip the line. I had no reservation that night because it was my second day in Dubai. I never ever imagined such a crowd at that time of night. I forgot to tell that one of my best friends is living in Dubai for 3 years now and she knew how to get On top of the World without paying and staying at the line. Lucky me!
So we left the reception area and we begin the vertical ascent to the 122th floor in a high-speed elevator, traveling at 10 meters per second. I didn’t felt when I was On Top of the World. As the doors open, floor-to-ceiling glass walls provide a breath-taking unobstructed 360-degree view of the city, desert and ocean. By night, sparkling lights and stars compete for your attention. I pause briefly before enjoying a breathtaking view over Dubai and the Arabian Gulf. The streets head in no particular direction and other skyscrapers appear tame and arbitrary. On clear days, one can glimpse man-made islandsfloating in the Arabian Gulf. If by chance, a visitor finds himself aching to buy some gold at this height, thankfully an ATM that distributes gold bars is available.
File that under Only in Dubai!
All my travel fosters my love for big cities. It always takes my breath away to see big cities from above, as it represents to me what the human race where able to achieve at its best. Skyscrapers, highways and big lights are always a promise of something big and magic. In big cities is easier to find whatever you are looking for and never get bored. Dubai is one of my favorite cities in the world, after London.
While said to be inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright’s plans to build a mythical mile-high tower called “The Illinois” in the fifties, the Burj Khalifa is very real and very original. The foundation for the building is based on the petals of the Hymenocallis flower, and it took 10,000 people from virtually every country in the world to complete the construction project. Named after the president of the United Arab Emirates, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the engineering marvel took over 5 years to build, opening in 2010.
From 122 level of the world’s tallest building, I experiencedthis modern architectural and engineering marvel. Now I know what it is like to see the world from such a lofty height. After we took a lot of pictures we couldn’t missed the highest restaurant from ground level according to Guinness World Record – At.mosphere Burj Khalifa. It’s one of the finest luxury dining and lounge experiences in the world, where you can listen to live harp music and sipped your cocktail overlooking the skyscrapers. At 442 meters on Level 122 and only two levels below At the Top Burj Khalifa, the tower’s observatory deck, At.mosphere presents an unique dining concept that appeals to all fine dining connoisseurs to lounge lovers. Adorned in mahogany walls and ceilings, Adam Tihany furnishings and floors of café au lait limestone, At.mosphere can host over 210 guests and features a spacious arrival lobby, a main dining floor, private dining rooms and display cooking stations. Led by Executive Chef Dwayne Cheer, who brings in over 13 years of international experience working in Michelin star restaurants, At.mosphere integrates two choices – lounge & grill. Due to safety issues with cooking at such a height, no gas can be used in the kitchen.
Exuding style and personality, the grill at At.mosphere, is billed as ‘the must visit’ restaurant in the city. The upscale lounge transports guests to a new realm. Featuring a stunning beverage display and cellar, At.mosphere serves as an ideal stopover for a mouth-watering light lunch or even an afternoon tea. At night, the mood shifts by opening to glittering views of the city and stunning vistas of the world’s tallest performing fountain – The Dubai Fountain.
“Every moment has infinite potential. Every new moment contains for you possibilities that you can’t possibly imagine. Every day is a blank page that you could fill with the most beautiful drawings.”
